After a morning briefing in Moshi, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before entering the Lemosho trail. Begin your trek through lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. The trail winds gently uphill, offering a serene introduction to the climb. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, where you’ll settle in for your first night on the mountain.

Start the day with a steep ascent through the last section of the rainforest into the moorland zone. Set up camp at Shira 1 Camp, where the open skies offer a perfect stargazing opportunity.

Today’s trek is relatively short, allowing for acclimatization and exploration of the stunning Shira Plateau. Hike across the plateau’s gentle slopes, enjoying spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding wilderness. Along the way, spot unique alpine flora that thrives in this high-altitude environment. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll rest and prepare for tomorrow’s longer hike.

The trail ascends steadily toward Lava Tower (4,600m), a striking volcanic rock formation. Pause at Lava Tower for lunch and to aid acclimatization before descending into the Barranco Valley. The descent brings you into the lush Senecio Forest, a surreal landscape of giant groundsels. Arrive at Barranco Camp, nestled beneath the towering Barranco Wall.

Begin the day by tackling the famous Barranco Wall, a challenging but non-technical climb offering rewarding views. Set out for Barafu Camp, the final staging point before the summit. The trail is steep and rocky, with striking views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Embark on your summit attempt at midnight, trekking through the dark with headlamps. Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then push onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the roof of Africa. After taking in the breathtaking views and snapping summit photos, descend to Barafu for a brief rest. Continue down to Mweka Camp, where you’ll celebrate your achievement.
